Mazda intended the CX-50 to be a vehicle that does more than getting you to your destination every day. It wanted something more than a utilitarian compact crossover for the roads and purposefully designed the CX-50 to have harmony with nature. The 2023 Maza CX-50 is made to take on unpaved roads, get you to a campsite or lake, and even has an ergonomically designed interior that makes the driving experience feel natural. You’ll still feel the unevenness of the terrain when you’re off-road, but you’ll be sitting in a driver’s seat that puts you in a position that supports you while you navigate through rough patches.

How the 2023 Mazda CX-50 Gets You to Your Destination

All trim levels come with the 2.5-liter V-4 engine with a turbo option. The non-turbo engine produces 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque while the turbo engine generates 227 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. The horsepower of the turbo engine gets a boost to 256 horsepower when using 93 octane gasoline. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, and equipped with i-Activ AWD that’s designed to respond to road conditions. The non-turbo engine gets an average gas mileage of 24 mpg city and 30 mpg gallon highway with the turbo engine achieves 23 mpg city and 29 mpg highway.

The CX-50 features four different drive modes that you select to enhance the car’s performance during current driving conditions. They include:

• Normal mode
• Sport mode
• Off-road mode
• Towing mode (available as an option)

Normal mode is intended for daily driving on the pavement, whereas sport mode gives you more responsiveness. The off-road mode emphasizes engine torque and brake usage to help you navigate and stay out of trouble. The towing mode is an available option that provides low-end torque for towing up to 3,500 pounds.

The Interior of the 2023 Mazda CX-50 Delivers Comfort and the Latest in Cabin Technology

The CX-50 provides seating for five passengers, with two in front and three in the back. Driver conveniences include a push-button start, telescoping steering wheel, remote keyless entry system, speed-sensitive door locks, power windows with one-touch down/up, and a manual day/night rearview mirror. These features are offered as standard on the S, S Select, and Select trim packages. You’ll have to step up to the Preferred Plus to get the power sliding-glass panoramic moonroof and ventilated front seats with 3 level adjustment.

The S and S Select trim packages feature manual adjustments for the driver and passenger seats with the upgrades in the S Select coming in the form of leather touches and a 10.25-inch full-color infotainment display instead of the 8.8-inch full-color display found in the S. All trim packages include dual front USB audio inputs and chargers except for the S. They also all come with an auxiliary audio input jack, steering-wheel-mounted phone and cruise controls, Multifunction Commander control, SMS text message audio delivery and reply, and infotainment system voice command. All trim packages feature Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
